Graduation Requirements

The basic study period for Sociology Academic Master's Degree is 3 years. Students are required to complete 40 credits for the master's degree, including 18 credits in Compulsory Sociology Courses, 12 credits in Restricted Elective Courses, 10 credits in Unrestricted Elective Courses and a Master's Thesis that carries no credits.

Note:

1. Re-arrangement of Public Courses for International students:

 a)      International students are required to take the Chinese Language Class. Students who are not exempted are required to take the 2 credits "Foundational Chinese" course (04411002).

 b)     "Introduction to China" (61410008) is a 2-credit compulsory course for international students, offered in the fall semester. Class 01 is taught in English, and Class 02 is taught in Chinese.

Note: "Classical Readings of Sociological Theory" and "Selected Readings from Marxist Classics" are compulsory courses for second-year graduate students; "Labor Studies" is a restricted elective for second-year graduate students. These courses should not be selected in the first year.

Students may choose to take courses offered by our department or select courses from other departments. Course selections should be made based on the advice of your mentor.
