Social Studies in China is a thematic academic research publication published by the China Social and Development Research Center at Peking University. Each issue focuses on a specific research area within Chinese society, compiling relevant research articles into a volume aimed at promoting academic progress in that field. To date, four volumes have been published by the Social Sciences Academic Press.
Volume One: Financialization and Technologization of Contemporary Society
This volume explores important topics such as the characteristics of financial markets, professional ethics in finance, the restructuring of Chinese society through financial instruments, changes in financial systems, financial policies, and property rights structures. Volume Two: Understanding Technology Applications and Social Change
This volume explores the relationship between technology and society from the perspective of technology application, divided into four parts:
1. The first part focuses on the social understanding of technology.
2. The second part examines common scenarios of technology application, the use of technology in the workplace, and changes in work characteristics.
3. The third part investigates the relationship between communication technology application and life changes.
4. The fourth part discusses the relationship between technology application and social change from a macro perspective, including discussions on artificial intelligence.
Editor: Qiu Zeqi
Volume Three: Forging the "Soul of Society" in Social Psychology
Since the restoration and reconstruction of contemporary social psychology in China in 1978, this field has been rooted in local action research practices, fostering confidence and courage in "cultural consciousness." A research practice centered on the transformation of Chinese society has revitalized since the 21st century. Its theoretical ambition is to genuinely confront the realities of China’s transformations, systematically describing, understanding, and explaining the logic and mechanisms of the psychology and behavior of individuals in the context of social change.
This volume introduces topics such as collective memory transmission, social representation theory, cognitive dissonance theory, institutional ethnography, and Higgins’ theoretical framework. It also provides in-depth analysis on issues including intergroup inequality, representations of poverty, height-based systems, and future life expectations regarding differentiation.
Editor: Fang Wen
Volume Four: Financialization and Technologization of Contemporary Society: Changes in Institutional Structures
The articles included in this volume represent some of the outstanding outcomes from the "Finance, Technology, and Society" seminar hosted by the China Social and Development Research Center at Peking University and the East Asian Social and Economic Research Center at Tunghai University. This volume explores the transformation of China’s financial system and the development of financial markets, the penetration of financial products into other fields, the operational logic of specific financial products, banking reforms, the evolution of national financial policies, changes in the financial credit system, and the development of technology as an environment.
It serves as a valuable exploration within economic sociology and the sociology of technology, laying the foundation for establishing a research system that connects finance, technology, and society in a triadic manner.
